Notice to Mariners

No.34 of 2003  Thames Estuary - Radio Reporting Requirements

This Notice replaces Notice to Mariners No.29 of 2003, which is cancelled forthwith. As of the date of publication of this Notice to Mariners the following information is to be given to Port Control London on VHF Channel 12 by reporting vessels.

On passing Sea Reach No 4 Reporting Point OUTWARD – declare the channels, beyond Sea Reach, which the vessel intends to use for navigation. (See note)

On passing Sea Reach No 1 or the Medway Buoy reporting point OUTWARD and intending to use the Knock John Channel  - declare an ETA for Knock John No 7 buoy and whether they intend to use the Fisherman’s Gat. They are to report again when passing Knock John No 7 giving an ETA for Black Deep No 7.

On passing Black Deep No.3 or if using Fisherman’s Gat, on passing South Knock, or the N.E. Spit INWARD – declare an ETA for Black Deep No 7 and the Knock John Buoy. They are to report again when passing Black Deep No7 giving a revised ETA for the Knock John Buoy

Note:  This aligns with the existing requirement for outbound Medway ships to report abeam the wreck of the “RICHARD MONTGOMERY” and will ensure that Port Control London is provided with more timely information on the intentions of traffic entering the busy Oaze area.
