Notice to Mariners

No.21 of 2007  Vessels Licensed As Ship Towage Tugs By The Port Of London Authority

In complying with the requirements of Byelaw 13 of the Port of London Craft and Boat Registration and Regulation Byelaws 2000 (as amended), owners of tugs wishing to undertake ship towage operations in the Thames are required, amongst other things, to submit a current bollard pull certificate to the PLA.  A new-build bollard pull certificate is acceptable until the vessel is 15 years old, thereafter; the PLA requires bollard pull tests to be undertaken every 5 years.

The list below identifies all tugs currently licensed by the PLA to undertake ship towage operations.  However, the guidance provided in the Port of London Voluntary Code of Practice for Tug Utilisation on the Thames (1997), in respect of the number of tugs to be used, assumes a minimum certificated Bollard Pull of 20 tonnes.
