Richmond Amateur RegattaRegattas have been held at Richmond for many centuries but the modern event was started in 1950 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of the Borough of Richmond. It is now one of the biggest regattas held on the tidal Thames, regularly attracting over 150 entries. Spectator numbers often exceed one thousand throughout the day. Refreshments and food are available all day in an enclosure with licenced bar. The 2008 Regatta took place on Saturday 28th June and was run over a 1250m course between Eel Pie Island and Buccleuch Gardens. There were classes for veteran, senior, novice and junior categories with male, female and mixed crews. Click here for a location map of the event.
